Planning Commission denies UP Campus’ zone change request

Posted on October 23, 2026October 23, 2026 by Matt

On October 22, 2026, in a 5-0 vote, the Lexington Planning Commission denied the zone change request for a proposed 10-story student apartment complex on High St, across from the YMCA. The proposed development would have had 751 beds and less than 200 parking spaces. Rent was reportedly going to be ~$1200/mo per bed, with an extra >$100/mo per parking space.

The Bluegrass Trust was particularly concerned about the property at the corner of Hagerman and High, and their attorney stressed that there are numerous surface parking lots in the area that would be much better suited for development, rather than destroying historic buildings.
